This has been a significant area of contention for me with Microsoft, and I have taken my concerns about it to the highest possible level, always being turned off under the OEM license b.s. I’m glad the company has recognized that the OEM license includes replacement drives and motherboards. I’d love my –literally four digits — $$$$ back on this one, MS. My Gigabyte motherboard bit the dust and I replaced it with an Asus. I was able to activate again using the above instructions. Moral of the story, Microsoft should be forthcoming when there isn’t quite the space to install.

The drawback is that you need Microsoft’s desktop software for this to work — and a Microsoft 365 subscription. Yes you are right, it’s less common to record screen. Since it is not used much used no one will like to go through the process of installing a new software which they are going to use just once once. Maybe because it’s less of a common use case than taking screenshots? I’ve personally never had to record apps, but I understand why it would be valuable to do. Once you complete the steps, you’ll end up with an edited version of the video, which you can upload to YouTube or share it with other people via email or other mediums.
